The world is facing enormous challenges. Social, Economic, and Environmental Sustainability are some of the most important issues of our time. Today’s technologies, business models and organizational forms are not enough to solve our global challenges. We need to rethink organizations to facilitate the necessary transformation to value-creating sustainable ecosystems.* To do this we need curiosity, curious co-workers and a curious organization.
My goal is to popularize the complex subject of curiosity in organizations and to make it easily accessible to a larger group with the hope of creating a better workplace. I want to push beyond the obvious and at the same time avoid a non-nuanced, simplified perception on curiosity and organization. I wish to contribute to the kind of workplace where people feel secure, have higher self-esteem, and are seen as individuals and therefore create powerful, sustainable organizations.
The ambition is a book that can be used in practice, and is based on interviews with internationally successful researchers in curiosity and organization as well as the latest research in the field.
Business leaders are challenged by the fact that decisions can no longer be made solely on the basis of experience. The reason is that the world is changing at such a rapid pace. It is difficult to interpret, and the uncertainty is great. Things do not seem to be repeating themselves, and traditional methods of business analysis that have their origins in the industrial age are gradually becoming irrelevant.
Generation Z is currently making its entrance into the labor market, as coworkers, customers, users and innovators. Technology is invisible for this up-and-coming generation. Digital technology is part of the world around us. It is part of the fabric that makes up life. Generation Z’s relation to technology is important as large parts of Sweden are facing a dramatic shift in technology.
There are books that are thematically related to this book – the strategy is to position this book in the Swedish context. More often than not, leadership and management in literature are based on American conditions. To now be able to write a book with a focus on the Swedish management tradition feels like an important contribution. The second opportunity to position the book is based on my background in design. I believe many methods used in design and design thinking arise from curiosity. And at the same time, I can see clearly how design and design methods are taking a seat at the table.
